John Allen ( 1771 or 1772- January 22, 1813) was an American Army officer killed in the War of 1812.Born in Virginia, he came to Kentucky in 1779. He practiced law in Shelby County, Kentucky from 1801 to 1807. That year he went to the state Senate, serving until his death. In the War of 1812, he was commissioned a colonel and died at the Battle of River Raisin.
He is the namesake of counties in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana.
