Jaws 2 is the 1978 sequel to Jaws. It tells the story of Sheriff Martin Brody's ( Roy Scheider) attempts to protect the small beach resort of Amity from a second wave of great white shark attacks. Lorraine Gary returns as Brody's wife, Ellen. Carl Gottlieb returned to writing duties but director Steven Spielberg opted out of revisiting his groundbreaking work from the first film. Directing chores went to TV director, Jeannot Szwarc .

Although the film met mixed reviews, the film's tagline has become one of the most famous in film history, "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...". It has been parodied in numerous films with the most notable being the one for the feature film adaptation of the television series, Flipper, "This summer it's finally safe to go back in the water."
