Jason Schwartzman (born June 26, 1980) is an American actor. Born in Los Angeles, California, he is the son of Talia Shire and Jack Schwartzman . Schwartzman is best known for his role as Max Fischer in the movie Rushmore. He also had a notable role in Slackers , which was panned by many critics for being quite different from his Rushmore role.Previous to acting, he was the drummer for the band Phantom Planet (which opened for the band Incubus when they were on tour in 2002). Despite leaving the band for an acting career, he still composes music for some films. He also appears in the music video for the rock remix of "All About the Benjamins" by Puff Daddy.
Schwartzman is part of a family of people involved in film. Besides his parents, he is also the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola and cousin of Nicolas Cage, Sofia Coppola, and Roman Coppola . He is the brother of actor/musician Robert Carmine (vocalist for the band Rooney), and his the half brother of cinematographer John Schwartzman . His cousin is entertainment publicist Eric Schwartzman .
