Jaron Lanier is an artist, musician, inventor, virtual reality developer, film director, public speaker, and member of the Global Business Network.

Jaron is probably best known for coining the term "Virtual Reality" in the early 1980's. At that time, he founded VPL Research, the first company to sell VR products.

Jaron taught at several computer science departments of universities around the country, including Columbia, Dartmouth, and Yale. He recently was the lead scientist for the National Tele-Immersion Initiative, an effort devoted to utilizing computer technology to give people (whom are separated by great distances) the illusion that they are physically together. Amazingly, Jaron holds no academic degrees.
