Jailhouse Rock is a 1957 film starring Elvis Presley, as "Vince Everett", an ex-convict working in the music industry. Elvis released the film soundtrack and had a hit record of the same name.
The film co-starred actress Judy Tyler, who was killed in an automobile accident a few weeks after the film was completed.
The song "Jailhouse Rock", written by Lieber and Stoller, was released as a single on September 24, 1957. With B-side "Treat Me Nice". "Jailhouse Rock" was a US #1 hit for 7 weeks in the fall of 1957, and a UK #1 hit for three weeks early in 1958.
Jailhouse rock is also the name of a martial art which was developed in prisons.
