Albert Reynolds fought his first and only election as leader of Fianna Fáil. It was one of the worst election performances for the Party in its history. Having promised before the election that it wouldn't enter into coalition with Fianna Fáil thats exactly what happened. Against all the expectations Albert Reynolds was back as Taoiseach with Dick Spring becoming Tánaiste.
