Home > Intrepid class starship

In the Star Trek fictional universe, the Intrepid class is a type of starship used by Starfleet. The Intrepid class is a variation of traditional Federation starship design with a spoon-shaped saucer section directly attached to the engineering section. The main bridge, lifeboats, auxillary navigational deflector, sensor platforms and dorsal phaser arrays are at the top of the saucer section while the ship's ventral phaser arrays, an Aeroshuttle and more lifeboats occupy the ventral saucer. At the bow of the engineering section is the main navigational deflector and forward photon torpedo launchers while the shuttlebays, aft torpedo launchers, impulse engines and warp nacelles occupy the stern. Ships of this class are among the most advanced in the fleet, including a maximum safe speed of warp 9.975, a non-destructive warp drive, incorporation of bioneural gel pack s into the computer system and one of the first starships with the Mark One Emergency Medical Hologram system. One distinctive feature of this class is the capacity to land on planets' surface while under blue alertBlue Alert is used on starships in the Star Trek fictional universe that have the ability to land and take off from planetary bodies. When Blue Alert is called, a number of procedures are performed. Before entering the atmosphere, the warp drive is shut d conditions. In addition, the bridge of an Intrepid class starship is a self-contained module that can detach itself from the ship in an emergency and manuever with thrusters. Like most Federation starships, the Intrepid class also has a plasmaFor the fluid portion of blood, see blood plasma; also, other uses. There is debate as to whether plasma is an individual state of matter or simply a type of gas. In physics and chemistry, plasma (also called an ionised gas is an energetic gas-phase state-based power distribution system, a duranium hull, tricylic life support systems, and artificial gravity plating. The Intrepid class was likely designed in the 2360s and put into initial production in the 2370s.

In real life, the Intrepid class was designed by production designer Richard D. James and illustrator Rick Sternbach .
