An inorganic compound is a chemical compound not containing carbon. However, elemental carbon ( diamond or graphite) is typically considered inorganic, while methane, ethanol and similar simple hydrocarbons are referred to as organic compounds.

Another key feature that makes a compound organic is the fact that they are found in organisms, IE. Citrus Acid is an organic compound because the orange produces it.
