The Imperial General Headquarters was the supreme command for Japanese military forces during the World War II era.
1 Organization of the Imperial Japanese Army -- December 8, 1941
The majority of these troops were stationed in China, Indochina, Japan, Formosa, Korea, and Manchuria. Only a fraction of Japan's military would be available for the December 1941 operations in southeast Asia and the Pacific. This includes some 61 divisions, 59 cavalry brigades, and 51 air squadrons.
