The Hyacinthaceae are a family of monocot flowering plants. Most of the genera which are currently included in the family were formerly classified in family Liliaceae, but more recent classification systems designate the Hyacinthaceae as a separate family within order Asparagales. The Hyacinthaceae are herbaceous perennials that grow from bulbs, and include several popular garden plants, including Hyacinth ( Hyacinthus), grape hyacinth ( Muscari ), and Bluebell ( Scilla).
Current research in molecular systematicsMolecular systematics is a product of the traditional field of systematics and the growing field of bioinformatics. It is the process of using data on the molecular constitution of biological organisms' DNA, RNA, or both, in order to resolve questions in is leading to further revision of the Hyacinthaceae, and some genera that were formerly placed within the family (for example Chlorogalum and CamassiaCamassia is a genus of the Liliaceae (Lily family). Common names Camas Wild hyacinth Indian hyacinth Quamash Species Camassia angusta Prairie Camas Camassia cusickii Cusick's Camas (occurs in Eastern Oregon) Camassia howellii Howell's Camas Camassia leich) are now placed in other families within the Asparagales.
