Hvalvik is located in a valley on Streymoy’s east coast. It shares the valley with another village called Streymnes. The church in Hvalvik is a traditional wooden church from 1829. It is the oldest one of its kind in the Faroe Islands. The church is built with wood bought from a ship that ran aground in Saksun. The church was built because the old church from 1700 was ruined in a storm.
