Huckleberry Hound was a Hanna-Barbera cartoon character. Voiced by Daws Butler, he was a blue dog that spoke with a southern drawl and dressed like a country boy. His character was a caricature of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. The character's voice and demeanor were loosely based on comedian and actor Andy Griffith of The Andy Griffith Show.

Huckleberry was the star and MC of the Huckleberry Hound Show, the first really successful Hanna-Barbera cartoon show which in 1959 became the first cartoon show to win an Emmy Award. The other two segments of the original show were Yogi Bear with his sidekick Boo-boo , and Pixie and Dixie, two mice who each show found a new way to outwit the cat Mr. Jinks. After Yogi Bear was given his own show in 1961, his segment was replaced with Hokey Wolf , whose sidekick was Ding-a-Ling .

In his own segment, Huckleberry played many different roles, including mountie, secret agent, sheriff, scientist, lion tamer, and many others.
