Home > Molar solution

In chemistry, a molar solution (also called a one molar solution or a 1 M solution) is a solution containing one mole of a given compound per litre of solution. A molar solution consists of two components: a soluble compound and its solvent. One mole of any compound has a mass equal to its molecular mass expressed in grams; therefore, a molar solution contains one molecular mass (in grams) of the compound. Sufficient solvent is also present to produce one liter of solution. Since the volume of the solution depends on the interactions of solute and solvent, the amount of solvent in a molar solution varies significantly.
