Hood County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 41,100. Its county seat is Granbury 6, and the county is considered a part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Hood County is named for John Bell Hood, a Confederate lieutenant general and the commander of Hood's Texas Brigade .

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,131 km˛ (437 mi˛). 1,092 km˛ (422 mi˛) of it is land and 39 km˛ (15 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 3.48% water.

There are 16,176 households out of which 28.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.60% are married couples living together, 7.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.20% are non-families. 21.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 2.88.

In the county, the population is spread out with 23.60% under the age of 18, 6.70% from 18 to 24, 25.20% from 25 to 44, 26.60% from 45 to 64, and 17.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 96.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $43,668, and the median income for a family is $50,111. Males have a median income of $38,662 versus $23,723 for females. The per capita income for the county is $22,261. 8.50% of the population and 6.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.00% of those under the age of 18 and 7.40% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
