Home > Honda Accord Hybrid

The Accord Hybrid is a hybrid car from Honda. It will be the company's third hybrid when the 2005 model is introduced in late 2004, following the Honda Insight and Honda Civic Hybrid. Honda is positioning the Accord Hybrid at the top of its (non- Acura) lineup. It will use the same 3.0 L V6 and other accessories from the Accord EX and will be priced US$3,000 higher. Power will be up from 240 hp to 255 hp and torque will rise from 212 ft.lbf to 232 ft.lbf. Fuel economy will rise to 30 mpg city and 37 mpg highway, equivalent to the Honda Civic.

The 2005 Accord Hybrid possesses the ability to shut down half of the cylinders when power is not in demand. Honda puts the emphasis on the performance and targets the high-end buyers. Unlike traditional hybrid designs, the new Accord hybrid uses a more powerful engine than its non-hybrid counterpart. Together with the electric motor assist, the hybrid version is a much higher performance car than the regular Accord. Due to its ability to shut down half or all of the cylinders at will, the car still achieves higher fuel economy than its non-hybrid counterpart despite its higher power performance.
