Gomel ( Belarusian and Russian: Го́мель; transliteration: Hómyel' and Gómel', respectively) is the second largest city of Belarus, with a population of about 500,000 and part of the Homyel voblast. Gomel is situated in the south-eastern part of the country, close to the border to Ukraine and to Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
