Home > Hjørring


Hjørring is a municipality in northern Denmark, in the county of North Jutland on the peninsula of Jutland. ( →  Vendsyssel). The municipality covers an area of 311.4 km², and has a total population of 35,558 ( 2002).

The name of the town derives from the Old Norse language and consists of two parts: Hjórr (which means a sword) and -ing (a typical ending of old Danish town names).
