Hestur is the only village on the island Hestur. "Hestur" means "horse" in Faroese. The village is located on the eastside of the island and enjoys the view over Gamlarætt and Velbastaður on Streymoy .
An attempt to fight the depopulation of the village a swimmingpool was built on the island in 1974. On the south-part of the island by the lake Fagradalsvatn it is possible to camp.
