Henry County is a county located in the State of Virginia. As of 2000, the population is 57,930. Its county seat is Martinsville 6.

1 History

The county was formed in 1777 from the western part of Pittsylvania County, Virginia. It was originally named Patrick Henry County, for Patrick Henry, who was then serving as the first Governor of Virginia after independence.

In 1785 the northern part of Patrick Henry County was combined with part of Bedford County to form Franklin County.
