It contains the family Cercopithecidae ( Old World monkeys), the gibbons or lesser apes ( Hylobatidae) and (the Old World monkeys, apes, and humans).

The omomyids are an extinct group of prosimians, but they are believed to be more closely related to the tarsiers, and are considered the most primitive haplorrhines.
