Hammond is a town located in St. Lawrence County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,207. The name is derived from early land owner Abijah Hammond.

The Town of Hammond is in the northwest corner of the county. There is also a village of Hammond in the town.

1 Geography

The north town line is the international border of Canada, defined by the St. Lawrence River, and the west town line is the border of Jefferson County, New York.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 201.8 km² (77.9 mi²). 161.1 km² (62.2 mi²) of it is land and 40.6 km² (15.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 20.13% water.

2 Demographics

As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 1,207 people, 500 households, and 339 families residing in the town. The population density is 7.5/km² (19.4/mi²). There are 1,371 housing units at an average density of 8.5/km² (22.0/mi²).
