• The first Hood was launched in 1859 as Edgar. In 1860 she was renamed to honor Admiral Samuel Hood, 1st Viscount Hood. Constructed of wood and sail-powered, she was later fitted with a steam engine. She was decommissioned in 1888.
• The second Hood was a modified Royal Sovereign-class battleship built at Chatham, England, launched in 1891 and sunk as a blockship in 1914. She was named after the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Arthur Hood .
• The last Hood was a battlecruiser launched in 1918, named after Admiral Samuel Hood. She was sunk in 19411941 is also the title of a Steven Spielberg movie made in 1979 see 1941 (film).
