Formed by SM Entertainment, produced by Lee Soo Man, their songs are a mixture of rap and ballads, with singer Kangta providing most of the ballad vocals. They were a talented group- by the 3rd album "Resurrection", they had written most of their own songs, and the last two albums after that ("Iyah", and "Outside Castle") they had become masters of writing and composing all their own songs. They were all talented dancers- Moon Hee Jun and Jang Woo Hyuk choreographing all their songs. Also they were the first K-pop group to ever hold a concert in the Seoul Olympic Stadium because of the magnitude of their fanbase.
The H.O.T. lineup remained the same during the life of the band and consisted of:
(H.O.T members were often remembered by their famed "Candy" numbers throughout their careers. It's a number each of them chose for themselves during the first album, and it was an attribute to their "Candy" song outfits. Since that video, H.O.T's numbers remained with them and a lot of fan merchandise contains the numbers.)
Discography includes:
Also available is the official music video tape which consisted of all the videos between the 1st and 4th album as well as Jingle Bells from the SM Christmas album, the 99 Seoul Olympic stadium concert tape, and the 2001 Outside Castle Concert. Age of Peace was a movie H.O.T made and showed in Japan during their 4th album. It was very futuristic (everything except H.O.T members themselves was computerized), and it was about an intergalactic soccer game. They produced a cd soundtrack to go along with this as well.
H.O.T has also won two American MTV music video awards in the category of "Best International Music Video" for their songs "We are the Future" and "Tooji". They've also won numerous awards from KMTV (Korean MTV), and various music shows that are popular in Korea.
H.O.T. split in 2001 after some contract problems, Kangta and Hee Jun staying with SM Entertainment as solo artists and the remaining members leaving to form new group called "JTL". Jang Woo Hyuk also went on to create his own dance company complete with his own team and school named "Newest".
