Today's Greyhound is the result of nearly a century of expansion and acquisition. The company has been headquartered in Hibbing, Duluth, Minneapolis, Chicago, Phoenix, and now Dallas.
Greyhound was at one time a much larger and much more diversified company, with holdings in everything from meatpacking to money orders to airliner leasing. However, a series of spinoffs in the 1980s resulted in Greyhound becoming solely a bus transportation company.
Greyhound merged with the primary constituent of its rival, the Trailways Transportation System in the early 1990s. Trailways now mostly cooperates with Greyhound.
Today's Greyhound is not as large or robust as it was at its peak, but it still fills an important niche.
