Home > Goodfeathers

The Goodfeathers were characters in the cartoon TV series Animaniacs that were obvious parodies of Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro, and Joe Pesci's roles in Goodfellas. They lived atop a park statue of Martin Scorsese in New York City, and spoke with distinct 'New Yawk' accents. At the time, they were arguably the most famous cartoon birds since Bob Clampett's Tweety Pie or Chuck Jones' hopping mynah bird.

The segments featuring the 'Goodfeathers' were notable for parodying a variety of Mafia films, despite the fact that most of these films wouldn't be considered suitable for the show's supposed young audience. This helped give Animaniacs a touch of sophisticated comic credibility that would make it popular among older audiences.

Squit would often do Liotta-esque voiceovers starting with "As far back as I can remember...." to open the shorts.

Pesto had a temper. Squit would say something innocent to him, and he would invariably take offense and go off on a rant similar to Pesci's famous "Am I a clown to you? Do I amuse you?" bar scene. He would scream "That's it!" and proceed to thoroughly whallop Squit. Bobby would look on and laugh.

Bobby's squinty sneer and careful, measured, "You talkin' to me?" is actually more Taxi Driver than Goodfellas. He seemed to be the brains of the operation.

The Girlfeathers are their female counterparts. One, Sasha, is Pesto's sister, and she's just as bad as he is.

Their boss, the Godpigeon, is an obvious take on Marlon Brando in The GodfatherThe Godfather is a novel written by Mario Puzo about a fictitious Italian Mafia family.
