A gestalt entity is a physical, biological, psychological, or symbolic configuration or pattern of elements, so unified as a whole that its properties cannot be derived from a simple summation of its parts. See holism.

In science fiction terms, it may be a being that is the collective thoughts and minds of many others and is in fact greater than the sum of the parts.

It may also refer to an emergent property, not usefully studied at the level of individual components.
