Georgetown is a city located in Scott County, Kentucky. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 18,080. It is the county seat of Scott County 6.

The city's recent growth began in the mid-1980s, when Toyota built its first wholly-owned United States plant north of the city. The plant, which currently builds the Camry and Avalon, opened in 1988.

1 Geography

Georgetown is located at 38°12'52" North, 84°33'20" West (38.214542, -84.555496) 1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 35.5 km² (13.7 mi²). 35.5 km² (13.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

2 Demographics

As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 18,080 people, 6,703 households, and 4,618 families residing in the city. The population density is 508.8/km² (1,317.5/mi²). There are 7,209 housing units at an average density of 202.9/km² (525.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 88.68% White, 8.01% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.03% from other racesThe United States Census Bureau uses the federal government's definitions of race when performing a census. There are 6,703 households out of which 38.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% are married couplesMarriage is a relationship that plays a key role in the definition of many families. Precise definitions vary historically and between and within cultures, but it has been an important concept as a socially sanctioned bond between people who (usually) are living together, 15.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 25.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.97.

In the city the population is spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 16.1% from 18 to 24, 32.8% from 25 to 44, 16.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
