General Jumbo (called Admiral Jumbo for a brief period in the early 1970s) was a fictional character who had his own comic strip in the UK comic The Beano, originally drawn by Paddy Brennan . Alfie "Jumbo" Johnson was a 12 year old boy who served as "general" to a remote control model army, navy and air force created by scientist Professor Carter. Storylines involved crime-fighting and/or rescue missions. Jumbo made his first appearance in issue 583, dated 19 September 1953, and the strip continued intermittently until issue 1734, dated 11 October 1975. However, he still makes an appearance in The Beano Annual every year, and made a one-off appearance in the 60th birthday issue.
