Gavin Shoesmith is a musician.

His first rise to fame was through the John Butler Trio band. See that article for information about it.

Gavin Shoesmith left the John Butler Trio to pursue his song writing career and to be able to focus on his love of the double bass. After the JBT Gavin formed a band called 'Katamaran', the band was based in Darwin and created Australian organic dance music. The band performed for just over a year, Katamaran's music was extremely popular with Double Bass(Gavin Shoesmith) Didgeridoo(Mark Hoffman) and Percussion (Grant Smith) and the band sold close to 5 000 CDs in this short time. Gavin Shoesmith (double bass) along with Jason McGann(drums) have since formed a band called The Groovesmith with Tim Scanlan the music can be best discribed as bass driven hip swinging roots music with a kick like moonshine.
