Gaithersburg is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 52,613. This city is located at 39°8' North, 77°13' West, to the northwest of Rockville, Maryland, the county seat of Montgomery County. Gaithersburg was incorporated in 1878.Its current mayor is Sidney A. Gaitherburg is home to the neo-traditionalist new town of Kentlands, Maryland , designed by Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk.
Gaithersburg has a five-member City Council, which serves as the legislative body of the city. The Mayor serves as president of the council.
