The Riviera is the coast shared between France and Italy, on the Tyrrhenian Sea, or the Italian Adriatic coast ("Riviera Adriatica"), on the Adriatic Sea.1 The Italian Riviera
The Italian Riviera is the coast both on the west and the east of Genoa, known as Liguria, extending from France to Tuscany. In Italian, the term "Riviera" includes the Riviera di Levante, from Genoa toward Tuscany, and the Riviera di Ponente, from Genoa to France. The Riviera di Ponente ends at Ventimiglia , a customs post for traffic with France.
It is famous for its particularly mild climate, which rendered it a well-known and frequented tourist destination even in winter time.
Many villages and towns in the area are internationally known, such as Portofino, Bordighera , Lerici, and Ventimiglia.
A part of the Riviera di Ponente, centered in San Remo, is called "Riviera dei Fiori", due to the characteristic production of flowers.
