Although he was trained as a shaman, he went for most of his life relying on technology rather than mysticism. During his stint in the Viet Nam War, his command was killed by enemy troops; in anger he summoned a band of demonSatan In folklore, mythology, and in many religions, a demon is a supernatural entity, generally (but not in all traditions) an evil or malicious spirit. Although Storm initially hated Forge and held him in contempt, the two grew closer, and would later become romantically involved. In the X-Men's final battle with the Adversary, Forge was required to sacrifice nine willing lives to banish the Adversary forever; the X-Men volunteered, and died in the casting of Forge's spell. However, the goddess Roma intervened and restored the X-Men to life.
Forge became involved with the resurrected X-Men, including Storm, and fought alongside Mystique's Freedom Force and an interim team of "X-Men" against the Reavers at Muir Island. During this battle, Destiny died, but not before foreseeing that Forge and Mystique would one day love one another, a fact that both parties found implausible. Forge later became a member of the X-Mansion 's "support team", but left when Storm rejected his proposal of mariage.
Forge went on to become the government's liaison with the mutant superhero team X-Factor. In this context he saw the mutant criminals Mystique and Sabretooth forced unwillingly onto the team. Although Forge and Mystique were attracted to one another, this did not prevent the pair from escaping. X-Factor was later disbanded, and Forge is currently not active in any mutant groups.
