The national flag of Bhutan has existed in this form or similar forms since the 19th century, reaching its current form in 1960. The dragon is Druk or the Thunder Dragon, and is a indicative of Bhutan being known as The Land of the Dragon in local Tibetan dialects. The objects in the dragon's claws are jewels that stand for wealth. The colors are divided to symbolize the secular monarchy (yellow) and Buddhist religion (orange).
It is one of the few flags on earth to feature orange as a prominant color.
