CENTRAL FLACQ - SOUTH EAST OF MAURITIUS PORTAL
This the hottest place around for shopping!! The number of shops and products that you can find around is so colossal and varied. Search for whatever you wish: clothing, classical Indian dresses, electronics, computers, jewelry, watches, pets, games, theaters, reconditioned cars, taxi services…and so many things. Most of the shops sell clothes, and that at a very low price!!! A unique occasion to get your new outfits. Famous buildings are the Arcade Virginie, La Source Commercial Center, KFC, Courts, Galaxy, etc. Even the famous supermarkets are present at Central Flacq: ASM, Spar, Winner’s, Top Shop. Central Flacq’s population consists of some 16,500 people. Everyday, it attracts a huge crowd from the nearby villages and from the other districts too. Byron College, Professor Basdeo Bissoondoyal College, Modern College, Darwin College and Sir Leckraz Teeluck State Secondary School are the main Secondary Schools found at Central Flacq. The best time for shopping is during the day. Better avoid 2.15 p.m to 3.00 p.m because there will be a rush of college students from all the sides! The church and the temples around are also worth a visit, you’ll thus learn more about the Mauritian culture.
POSTE DE FLACQA calm and innocent looking village, with a population of some 7500 people, Poste De Flacq is only some ten minutes drive from Central Flacq. Poste De Flacq is better known as “Au Poste” by the villagers. As you drive along the main road of Poste De Flacq, you can notice small shops (including tourist shops too!) here and there. Even a Game House exists. The inhabitants’ favorite spot is the small and sweet beach of “Choisy”. While entering the “Choisy” road, you’ll be delighted to admire the scene as it is so well maintained by the “Prince Maurice Hotel”. Humps along the road will slow your vehicle down and thus you can take more time in viewing the site. The “Choisy” beach is a very well frequented beach and it’s just behind the “Prince Maurice Hotel”. Children, youngsters, elderly people (especially ladies) can often be seen with there self made fishing equipments in the shallow water (that will often not exceed ones ankle), in search of fishes, shrimps, crabs, eels, and so on. Almost near the coral reef, men are also seen fishing with long bamboo sticks. Dinner will be made out of those sea creatures. Others go there simply for an unforgettable picnic among friends and relatives. The lawn just besides the white sand is so clean that you can have your food there itself without any kind of problem. Beach sports are rarely practiced there. Further, behind the trees and bushes, an old cemetery still exists. Another cemetery, the “cimetière anglais” (English cemetery) can be found in the vicinity of the NHDC flats.
Poste De Flacq is also very famous for a very unusual Hindu temple. The huge “Shiva Sagar” temple was constructed over the surface of the seawater. The statues of Gods and Goddesses inside the temple are really fascinating. If the tide is high, one will have to go through the seawater to reach the entrance of the temple.

F.U.E.L stands for “Flacq United Estates Limited”. It’s often called as “Union”. Although F.U.E.L is a very small village, with a very thin population, it is very well known throughout Mauritius. The main place of interest in this village is the famous F.U.E.L Sugar Factory. It is considered as one of the biggest factories of the Indian Ocean. The factory is such a busy place during sugar cane harvest time (June – October). Lorries (in Mauritius the old “Bedford J6” is so common for this purpose) can be seen going to and fro the factory at any time of the day, with their wagons fully loaded with fresh sugar cane just cut down by laborers, from the sugar cane fields. It’s the same plant that will afterwards be converted to sugar in the factory.
Besides the sugar factory, F.U.E.L also hides beautiful rivers and small ponds.

CAMP DE MASQUE/CAMP DE MASQUE PAVE - EAST OF MAURITIUS PORTAL
The lifestyle in Camp de Masque and Camp De Masque Pavé is said to be completely different from other villages. In these villages, there are neither big shops nor any huge shopping centers. But Camp De Masque Pavé does have something really interesting. There, most of the inhabitants (some 7000 people) are involved in plantation out of which they earn their living. Sugarcane, fruits and vegetables are mainly planted. The main plantation remains that of Pineapples. Acres of uneven land can be seen masked with pineapple plantation. If not, it’s surely some other form of plantation again.
One should be well equipped before visiting the area. If you are planning to visit the area, the best way is to use a pick up truck or some other off road vehicle. While we were exploring around, we were really very surprised to see a small but beautiful cascade. Its water runs through the crops and plants.
The other interesting part of Camp De Masque Pavé is the mountains. The most popular one is “The Fayence Mountain”. Climbing “The Fayence Mountain” is not difficult, but surely needs some precautions. The ascent might last nearly one hour. Once at the peak, the view is absolutely mind-blowing!! The nearby villages and even the sea can be admired. At dusk, the scene is even more attractive. There, you can picnic or even set up a camp and light a fire.

BRISEE VERDIERE AND BON ACCUEIL
Brisée Verdière and Bon Accueil are two neighboring villages. Brisée Verdière is a small village, with a population of some 7500 inhabitants. Small business places have cropped up here and there during the past few years. The best place of visit in Brisée Verdière is the “Salim Auto”, reconditioned car seller. It is the biggest showroom of cars in the whole of Mauritius. The vehicle models are not the latest but you’ll be surprised to see such an interesting place in the east of Mauritius. Bon Accueil, smaller than Brisée Verdière, has a population of nearly 5000 people. Supermarkets, various shops, snack sellers, meat and seafood sellers can be easily located across the Royal road. A State Secondary School, for girls, was recently constructed at Bon Accueil.
The “Shri Krishna Balarama Mandir”, by the “ISKCON”, was completed in the year 2000. The temple opening was very grand and was memorious for the east of Mauritius. It is a huge and beautiful temple entirely dedicated to “Lord Krishna”. The temple has a very calm atmosphere that soothes the mind. Various activities are held at the temple, especially on Sundays, when hundreds of people gather in the temple to pray the Lord. Visitors are mostly welcome during the day. Simply the pride of the villagers of Bon Accueil.
MARE D'AUSTRALIA
A small village of about 3000 inhabitants just after Brisee Verdiere. Historically known for being the place where rice was planted in Mauritiu during war times.
