Finwë is a fictional character in the fantasy universe of J.R.R. Tolkien. He was the first High King of the Ñoldor (as such he is sometimes surnamed Ñoldaran) who led his Elven people on the journey from Middle-earth to Valinor in the blessed realm of Aman. He was a great friend of Elu Thingol, the King of Doriath

Finwë had two wives. His first was Míriel, who passed away soon after bearing their only child, Fëanor. His second wife was Indis, of the Vanyar, who bore him two sons: Fingolfin and Finarfin, and two daughters: Findis and Irimë.

During Melkor's attempt to corrupt the Ñoldor, Finwë attempted to moderate his people and lead them back to the ValarTolkien's fantasy universe, Middle-earth, the Valar are the Powers of Arda who live on the Western continent of Aman. The Valar were the fourteen powerful spirits of the race of the Ainur who entered Arda after its creation to give order to the world and. When Fëanor was exiled from TirionTolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth, Tirion upon Tuna was the city of the Noldor in Valinor. It was here that Finwe ruled from, and where his sons Feanor, Fingolfin and Finarfin lived. Originally Tirion had been populated by the Vanyar as well, b, Finwë went with him to FormenosTolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth, Formenos was the stronghold of Feanor and his sons in the north of Valinor, built after the banishment of Feanor from Tirion. A great number of the Noldor, including their king Finwe, went with Feanor into exi. There he was the first to be killed in Valinor when Melkor slew him at the doors of Formenos seeking the SilmarilThe Silmarils are fictional artifacts from J. Tolkien's universe of Middle-earth. The Silmarils ( Quenya Silmarilli were three gems of immense might and beauty created by Feanor while the Eldar were still in Valinor. They were named for and crafted of thes. This act was the catalyst that led to the Revolt of the Ñoldor.

Finwë's name is not fully translated. The glossary in the Silmarillion translates Fin as "hair"; other sources say it means "skill".
