Fejér is the name of an administrative county ( comitatus or megye) in present Hungary, and also in the former Kingdom of Hungary.

1 Fejér county

Fejér county lies in central Hungary. It lies on the west bank of the river Danube and nearly touches the eastern shore of Lake Balaton. It shares borders with the Hungarian counties Veszprém, Komárom-Esztergom, Pest, Bács-Kiskun, Tolna and Somogy. The capital of Fejér county is Székesfehérvár. Its area is 4359 km˛.

2 Fejér (former county)

Fejér (in Latin: comitatus Albensis) is also the name of a historic administrative county ( comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory, which was slightly smaller than that of present Fejér county, is presently in central Hungary. The capital of the county was Székesfehérvár.

2.1 Geography

Fejér county shared borders with the Hungarian counties Veszprém, Komárom, Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun and Tolna. It lay south-west of BudapestSee Budapest (band) for the british melancholic post-grunge band. The river Danube formed most of its eastern border. Its area was 4129 km˛ around 1910.

2.2 History

Fejér county arose as one of the first comitatus of the Kingdom of Hungary, in the 11th century. The Solt region, east of the Danube river, which used to be part of Fejér county, went to Pest-Pilis-Solt county in the 17th century.

After World War II the region south-east of Lake Balaton (around Enying ), which used to be in Veszprém county went to Fejér county. The city Erd and surroundings went to Pest county.
