F.C. Sankt Pauli e.V. is a German football (soccer) club. It previously played in the Bundesliga, but now plays in the third division (Regionalliga), although it is renowned throughout Germany. The club was established in 1910.
This club is extraordinary in many ways. Its supporters mostly look like hard rock fans but stem from all social groups. A sign of the club is the " skull and crossbones" flag. Although the fans of St. Pauli are known to be peaceful, harmless, open-minded and multicultural interested.
In 2003 the club was nearly bankrupt and it started money-collecting activities. They printed t-shirts with the club's coat of arms surrounded by the word "Weltpokalsiegerbesieger" (defeater of football club's world cup winner). More than 140,000 were sold within within 6 weeks. For this they had to buy nearly every brown coloured t-shirt available in Europe. Also they organized a benefit game against Bayern Munich to rescue the club. To carry the Munich team from airport to hotel they lent a long black car on which they printed "Rettungswagen" (rescue car). Together with a local brewery and hundreds of bars at Reeperbahn and beverage shops on every beer or case of beer a 50 cent per glass and 1 Euro per case were topped on the normal price. These samples of activities shall show how creative this club is.
