Évry is located 27 kilometers southeast of Paris along the Seine River. Significant nearby towns include Corbeil-Essonnes, Ris-Orangis , Brétigny-sur-Orge , and Draveil . The Institut National de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques ( INSEE) includes Evry in the Paris metropolitan area.

The Evry arrondissement contains 17 cantons, 52 communes, and has a population of 471,435. The city of Corbeil-Essonnes, which is the seat of a sub-préfecture, is nevertheless not the capital the arrondissement, and is part of Evry arrondissement.
