The San Lucan Skink (Eumeces lagunensis) is a skink (a type of lizard) native to Baja California.
Together with the Western Skink (E. skiltonianus), Gilbert's Skink (E. gilberti), and the Four-lined Asiatic Skink (E. quadrilineatus), the San Lucan Skink belongs to the so-called "skiltonianus group". The exact taxonomy within this group is being questioned and may need revision following DNA analysis research.
The San Lucan Skink occurs only on the tip of Baja California, in the mountains around La PazLa Paz is a small city on the shores of the Gulf of California, the capital of Baja California Sur, Mexico. It is located at 24. 14° North, 110. 32° West, on the south end of the Bay of La Paz. As of 2000, the city had a population of some 163,000 people.. They tend to nest in the same areas as Western skinks, and are visibly similar.
