Ethiopia was represented by 60 athletes at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Interestingly, 58 of them participated in athletics events, mainly the country's specialty of long distance running. Two athletes competed in boxing.The country competed in 10 Summer Olympics prior to 2004 (1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1992, 1996, and 2000). The 2000 Summer Olympics were the most successful for Ethiopia, as the country claimed four gold medals and eight overall.
