Edward II is a play by Christopher Marlowe, based on the love affair beween Edward II of England and Piers Gaveston. The play ends with one of the most horrific executions of the English stage.

The Prospect Theatre Company 's production of the play, starring Ian McKellen and James Laurenson, caused a sensation when it was broadcast by the BBC during the 1970s.

The play was converted into a film by Derek Jarman.
