Leontopodium alpinum

Edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) is one of the best known European mountain flowers. The name comes from GermanGerman (called Deutsch in German in which germanisch refers to prechristian times), is a member of the western group of Germanic languages and one of the world's major languages. It is the language with the most native speakers in the European Union. edel (meaning noble) and weiß (meaning white).

The famous song from The Sound of MusicThe Sound of Music is a Broadway musical and movie based on a true story. It contains many hit songs, including "Edelweiss", "My Favorite Things", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and "The Lonely Goatherd", as well as the title song. Julie Andrews as Maria, seeks g was named after this flower; the great popularity of the song led to the mistaken belief that it is the national anthem of AustriaAustria is a landlocked country in Central Europe, a federation of nine states. In Switzerland, the Edelweiss Air AG is an international airline named after the flower, who also uses it as their logo.

There is also an Austrian band named Edelweiss.
