Dyess Airforce Base is located in Texas, just west of the city of Abilene. The city of Abilene obtained and provided to the Department of Defense 6,409 acres (26 kmē) for a military installation. Ground-breaking ceremonies occurred on the base on September 24, 1953.

Dyess Air Force Base is home to the B-1B Lancer bomber and the C-130 Hercules transport.
