Dyess Airforce Base is located in Texas, just west of the city of Abilene. The city of Abilene obtained and provided to the Department of Defense 6,409 acres (26 km²) for a military installation. Ground-breaking ceremonies occurred on the base on September 24, 1953.

Dyess Air Force Base is home to the B-1B Lancer bomber and the C-130 Hercules transport.
