Luigi Amedeo Giuseppe Maria Ferdinando Francesco ( 1873- 1933), better known as Duke of the Abruzzi was an italian mountaineer and explorer who made the first ascent of Mount Saint Elias ( Alaska) in 1897.

He was born January 29, 1873 in Madrid, Spain. He died on March 18 1933, at Abruzzi City, near what is now called Mogadishu, Somalia.
