It tells of the events on Wisteria Lane after the suicide of Mary Alice Young, who narrates the story from beyond the grave. Mary Alice left behind quite a puzzle involving her husband Paul and son Zack a mysterious toy chest containing human remains. The story is unraveled through her four friends; single mom Susan Mayer who is in competition for single new neighbor Mike Delfino with neighborhood man-eater, Edie Britt; ex-career woman Lynette Scavo, who is now saddled with three evil children (whatever DID happen to that other child?), a baby, and a husband who is always out of town; everything-in-its-place ice queen Bree Van De Kamp who's trapped in a sterile marriage with Rex, her fed up husband; and Gabrielle Solis, who married Carlos for money, but finds satisfaction with the teenage gardener, John. Things are aggrivated by nosy neighbor Mrs. Huber and the mystery of why Mary Alice took her own life.
