Daniel Lanois (born September 19, 1951, Hull, Québec, Canada) is a French Canadian producer and musician. He has produced albums for a wide variety of artists and produced a limited number of albums of his own work. He has worked with U2, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Robertson, Ron Sexsmith.He started his production career working in his own studio in Grand Avenue Studio, Hamilton, Canada , working with a number of local bands, most notably Martha and the Muffins, for whom his sister Jocelyne played bass.
After being discovered by Brian Eno and working collaboratively with him on some of Eno's own projects, his career was given a huge boost when Eno invited him to co-produce U2's album The Unforgettable Fire.
As well as being a producer, Lanois plays the guitar and dobro, as well as sings and writes songs, his wide range of talents being put to use on many of the albums he produces where he often leaves his signature sound.
