Constructive empiricism says science gives us theories which are empirically adequate and that acceptance of a theory involves as belief only that it is empirically adequate. There is no need to believe good theories to be true and the entities postulated as real. Theories are intellectual instruments for prediction, control, research and enjoyment. Acceptance thus means commitment, perhaps an acceptance that it provides explanations. (representing and Intervening, Ian Hacking 1983)
