Coast to Coast was created by broadcaster Art Bell, who hosted the program from his residence in Nye County, Nevada. Bell has retired and returned several times, and the show is now carried by Premiere Radio Networks and is moderated by George Noory from Los Angeles. Bell hosts the program most Saturday and Sunday nights. The show is occasionally hosted by Barbara Simpson from San Francisco, California.
Coast to Coast mostly emphasizes very unusual stories and is full of personal stories. On Fridays, the guest does not stay on very long, and the host takes unrelated calls for the rest of the program. This is called "Open Lines."
The Halloween edition of Coast to Coast becomes "Ghost to Ghost" as callers call in with their ghost stories.
