A small, touristic town, Coamo is known for its historic downtown area and for its thermal water s. One of the most famous thermal water spots is located in Coamo: a part of a resort named Coamo's Bath (Los Baños de Coamo in Spanish). The thermal waters service is available to the general public.

Coamo is an agricultural center raising mangoes, coffee, avocados, bananas, poultry and cattle.

Coamo doesn't have a large sports activity program each year: the city's BSN team, the Coamo Marathon Runners, is the only professional team to play there, and they have played in Coamo with mixed success since joining the league in 1985.
