Home > Claymation

Claymation is a moviemaking technique created by taking pictures of a clay object. In each picture (frame), the clay object is slightly moved. When the frames are played in succession at a frame rate greater than 16 frames per second, a fairly convincing illusion of smooth movement is created. The concept is similar to keyframing in 3D animation programs. To achieve the best results, use a consistent environment for shooting. Pay special attention to maintaining consistant lighting. Also be sure not to move the camera, only the object, unless you are doing a complex animation.

Some films or television shows produced with Claymation:

A technique similar to claymation is employed in the East-German children's show, Sandmännchen.
